At the heart of Dayak’s territory, were found many diamonds, known for their exceptionally bright colours and their popularity with the biggest jewellers in Amsterdam since the 16th century.
The shamans of this region counted: “Each diamond is a princess that must never be offended”. For a long time it were women who had the power of discovering and extracting them.
For that, they used the pan - a conical instrument that allowed to separate alluvium from diamonds thanks to its typical form and a movement of rotation.
These old pans are presented on a stand in a Museum Collection version.
