Large offering basket from Java Island. Indonesia is one of the countries who cultivates the most offerings: used for a spiritual purpose or honorific during festivities, they are always caracterised by an abundance of gifts meant to appease demons or please gods, honor the dead or congratulate the living.
These little baskets who allowed them to be offered were made by each family or bought to travelling sellers. Embellished by embroideries, beads and little parts of mirror, they are here covered by velvet and elegantly disposed on a metal base.
