Very beautiful re-edition of a lion’s paw from the 19th century. It was a symbol of justice and courage. Fragment of a sculpture which probably adorned a mansion’s gate, a fountain or a park, this lion’s paw was made out of sandstone. One of the legends surrounding sandstone is that it comes from some Italian monks trying to achieve transmutation from base metal into gold. Hand sculpted by our craftsmen its natural aged and timeworn patina gives it authenticity. Some stones spend months in our workshops to acquire the desired patina. Note that the magic of this stone is in the changes that occur when the master craftsman wishes to sculpt: he has to wet the stone to make it friable and soft for the blade. And when it dries, it becomes "hard as stone" again!
