Superb reproduction of an ancient Egyptian two-finger amulet. Re-edited and hand-carved in sandstone by our craftsmen, this object was originally made of obsidian, basalt or steatite, materials chosen for their color associated with the underworld and their durability, enabling them to retain their power for eternity. Amulets served as personal ornaments for the living, and were placed on mummies to protect them and help them on their journey to the afterlife. The color, shape and other characteristics of the materials were thought to confer specific powers and protections on the amulet and its wearer.
This one was most likely intended to seal a wound, preventing harmful forces from entering the body. Today, however, it is displayed on a museum-style pedestal, transforming it into a magnificent and unusual Curiosity!
