Unique item. The brightness of the masks and puppets sculpted by the Bozo fishermen in Mali brings a happy note by their sheer presence in traditional theatre representations and festive ceremonies. Indeed they are always painted in shimmering bold colours, in contrast with the sea and the sky which are their original environment. Naive Art, tribal but powerful, these scupltures also are an educative tool when used in scenes played for an enthusiastic audience. This really beautiful puppet of a woman with a magnificent headdress and earrings, hands on hips, seems so real, we almost could hear her telling us stories!
